Celebrating Our Past, Present and Future!

One of the most amazing qualities of Lompoc is our weather! And even if you aren’t a fan of the ocean breeze, it is one of the reasons I love living here. I call it Mother Nature’s air conditioning. Because we are a lovely 70 degrees year round, we have great weather for spending time outdoors. We have the Flower Festival and Parade, The Spring Festival, the Children’s Christmas Parade, The Chalk Festival, Club Fly-in, and not to mention all the weekend festivities put on by local churches and the chamber. We appreciate it all!

But as the history of Lompoc continues to evolve we have opportunities to celebrate being the city of arts and flowers (and rockets) in new ways. Here are few ideas that have been suggested over the years that would be fun to explore:

  • Embrace our windy nature with a Kinetic Sculpture Art Competition and Festival and/or a Hot Air Balloon Festival

  • Relish in the number of musicians that live and create in our community by bringing back the Live Music Festival

  • Celebrate all of our agricultural history with L.E.A.F. or Lompoc Educational Agriculture Festival, where we share the history and how to of framing beans, mustard, flowers, wine, artichokes and more.

  • Identifying and designating a launch viewing area at one of our parks with space for food trucks and STEM games ready to deploy for at least one of the launches a month - free to all.

There are more ideas but these are just to get the ideas flowing around embracing who and what we have here.
