Close The Digital Gap
Given we have dark fiber (really big and a lot of capacity for internet traffic cables) running directly through town, we should be recruiting industries that need that capability. Businesses like data storage and AI are seeking capacity as well as power. To our advantage we own and produce our electricity making it nearly 40% less expensive than neighboring cities as well as land costs being more competitive than say Santa Barbara. Investing in our fiber infrastructure would improve and bring new jobs but also expand our options for internet services that were more reliable and less expensive. We all realized that internet access was not only a service but now a basic need after the pandemic. We have the capabilities and the opportunity to expand our community by expanding broadband.
