Kickball for All

This isn’t a new idea or request. And it is a known need and would bring in tourists and be great for our children’s sports life: Sport Tournament Fields. We have great weather and sports ranging from baseball and football to soccer and flag football. Too many of our families travel to far for tournaments that we should be having here in Lompoc. No one argues all the benefits it would have on many levels. The questions are where is there land, funding and staff to bring about such a place? We do have land that could be utilized if we were able to build more at River Bend but it has limitations for infrastructure, power and lights since it is in the flood plane and path or the airport. We could have negotiated placing it on annexed land west of the city had LAFCO and county not denied the annexation. And if Measure R fails then we could revisit the proposed sports complex that could be built on our land. Until then I will continue to work on identifying land, funding and partners to deliver on this idea - just know there are competing ideas for very little acreage available to build facilities of this size.
