No Boondocking Here!
During the pandemic one of the ways people escaped the confines of their homes and distress was to go camping. Some loved backpacking and setting up tents while other decided a recreational vehicle or RV was the way to go. In neighboring communities we have seen the success of RV parks like that of the Flying Flags in Buellton or the public parks like Jalama County Park expand the spaces and add cabins for those who don’t want to tow a camper or set up a tent.
We are very lucky to already have a city park with RV spots. Over the past few years we have been upgrading those to modern amenities and plan to expand the number of spaces. This is a great way to generate additional park revenue. The city has taken the first step but there is a lot more we could do to improve the parks appeal to not only the community but the RV vacationer. Adding a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists across to the Wine Ghetto and bike trails into town, and repaving the park road to make it smoother to tow trailers through as well as turn around. Investing is a community center with roll up doors to have events like the Girl Scouts Jamboree or Santa Barbara Wine Festival return to the park and camp on site as a part of the ticket option. As a camper I know I would rather camp in Lompoc where the weather is a cool 70 degrees than in Buellton where it hits 100!
